Scottish post rockers Mogwai have announced that their longtime guitarist John Cummings has left the band after over twenty years of contributing to their prolific discography - which includes the ominous Les Revenants soundtrack.
The band released a brief statement on their website, explaining that Cummings is leaving the band in order to “pursue his own musical projects and that two additional members (Scott Paterson and Luke Sutherland) will be joining them for their upcming shows. Check out the full statement below.
"We are sad to announce that John Cummings has decided to leave Mogwai to pursue his own musical projects.
We will continue as a four piece of Dominic Aitchison, Stuart Braithwaite, Martin Bulloch and Barry Burns and shall be joined on our upcoming live shows by Scott Paterson and Luke Sutherland.
We wish John all the best with the future."
Mogwai recently celebrated their twentieth anniversary as a band, curating six music filled nights at London's Roundhouse back in June with artists like Public Enemy, Godspeed You! Black Emporor and GZA. The band are responsible for seminal albums like Rave Tapes and have also scored films and TV shows such as the French thriller, Les Revenants.
"I like it in some ways," said Stuart Braithwaite. "I really enjoyed going to see The Stooges play Fun House and Raw Power, but it can be a little bit odd - especially when people get more excited about something really old. That's something about maybe the culture of Youtube and things existing as if they're current, when they're not. I think its hard to get exited about new music when you make a really big deal about old music."
