In a statement issued by the band, White Miles discuss their wellbeing after performing opening for Eagles Of Death Metal at the Bataclan where the Paris massacre took place.
White Miles, who warmed up for the Eagles of Death Metal last week as part of their tour have returned home safely. In their statement, that band wrote, “We returned home last Sunday. We are in good health, but the events are still too close, the impressions too touching”.
The Australian duo, which comprises of Medina Rekic and Hansjörg Loferer, explain that they are “happy but miserable at the same time. Happy, because we are back with our families, who help immensely to make us feel safe again; miserable, because we know that many families have to mourn following the weekend. It goes without saying that our thoughts are with all victims and their relatives."
The band’s upcoming gigs with Eagles of Death Metal have been cancelled, as well as their shows in Portugal, Spain and Switzerland. U2 and Deftones have also cancelled their European concerts as a result of the Paris attacks.
White Mile’s next gig will take place on 17 December in Inssbruck, Austria. The group stated that the concert “will be in remembrance of our lost friend, Nick Alexander”.
Rekick and Loferer explain that “[Alexander], a member of our crew who sold merchandise, was shot and killed.” Alexander was the first Briton confirmed to have been killed in the attack. Since then, a charity T-Shirt campaign has been commissioned in memory of Alexander, whilst a GoFundMe memorial fund for the late merchandiser has raised over £35,000.
One of the duo’s close friends also suffered an injury at the gig, “a good friend of ours has been shot, but blessedly, he is on the way to recovery. It’s difficult for us to come to terms with the terrible incident.”
Amongst the deceased was also Mercury Record’s international product manager, Thomas Ayad. Justin Bieber and Keith Richards have both paid tribute to the late product manager, whilst Placebo, Muse, Brendan Flowers, Taylor Swift, Pharrell Williams, Jared Leto, AC/DC, Sam Smith, Snoop Dogg, Justin Timberlake and more have also issued their condolences and messages surrounding the attacks.
