Johnny Marr is set to release his long-awaited autobiography, Set The Boy Free later this year.

Set to drop on 3 November it will be available not only in hardback, but audiobook and ebook too.

The yet unreleased memoir will follow the ex-Smiths guitarist's lengthsome career journey, from the moment he and Morrissey began the band, to his work with other groups such as Modest Mouse, Talking Heads and The Cribs. The autobiography itself will be written up to and including his work from the present day - as well as detailing the 'tensions within The Smiths'.

Commenting on his autobiography's title, Marr stated, "I wanted to convey a feeling of breaking free, that has been a constant throughout my life. A feeling that expresses itself as both escape and discovery. Transcendence. I found it through rock 'n' roll and art and a journey living both in the modern world."

Ben Dunn, the director of Century publishing claims this is "the book Smiths fans have been waiting for their whole lives and the early material Johnny has written is utterly breathtaking."
