Miles Kane has given a fairly blunt but informative explanation for the fact he never joined Artic Monkeys: "I hadn't been a frontman. I had a hard-on for that."
Though Kane was the lead singer of short-lived band The Rascals from 2007 to 2009, he's had better success with the solo material he's released under his own name. Arguably his biggest career move, though, was teaming up with Arctic Monkeys' Alex Turner to form The Last Shadow Puppets.
The band released one album, The Age Of The Understatement, in 2008, and though the pair remained good friends, it's taken nearly eight years for the wheels to be put in motion for a follow-up.
In a new interview with Q, the pair were asked whether Kane ever came close to joining Arctic Monkeys in their early days. "Well...no," answered Turner. "I think because that was when he just started The Rascals. That was just all happening as well."
Kane, meanwhile, had this to say: "I really wanted to be a frontman at that time. I hadn't been a frontman. I had a hard-on for that. We're fortunate that we are best mates and that we can even do this again and that’s enough, I guess. I don’t want to say in an ideal world we would be in a [full-time] band [together] because we both love what we do aside from this"."
