No Doubt have replaced Gwen Stefani with AFI frontman Davey Havok to form an intriguing supergroup.

Havok will act as lead singer for the as-yet-unnamed band, which also comprises No Doubt's Tom Dumont, Tony Kanal and Adrian Young.

The marriage of two of the most commercially successful American bands ever is an enticing prospect, and could make for a very powerful live band. They don't have a name yet but are looking to sign record deal to release the album they've already completed.

No Doubt's original line up, including Gwen Stefani, reformed to play live last year but they haven't released an album since 2012, and Stefani has been more focused on her solo work.

AFI haven't released an album since Burials in 2013 and Havok has been focusing on side projects Blaqk Audio, and XTRMST before turning his hand to work on this current band. Considering both bands' lack of commitments, a new project seems like a logical step.

Meanwhile, Gwen Stefani's 'Make Me Like You' surfaced online today. The track has all the hallmarks of a hit single: it's about love, there's an abundance of hooks, and it's got that polished mix sound that makes it ripe for day time radio and the dancefloor. But it's too safe and lacks the excitement of No Doubt, who released the classic 'Don't Speak'.

Let's hope that in this new group, the No Doubt members have some of the minerals that made them such a great band left in them.
