Azealia Banks has released a (sort of) statement after calling Zayn Malik a “paki”, “faggot” and “hair curry scented bitch” on Twitter.

As we reported yesterday, the whole thing began when Banks accused Malik of “mood boarding” (i.e. copying) her for his new ‘Like I Would’ video - though she then added that she liked the former One Direction singer, and that she thought he was a “cutie pie.”

Things quickly took a turn, though, when Malik tweeted, “I see you reaching but I don’t care… My @’s too good for you”, which Banks swiftly assumed was about her. She then took a break from expressing her support for Donald Trump and began hurling vile abuse at him.

Now, Banks has posted a screenshot of a series of DMs sent to blogger @zizziswardrobe, by way of a statement. “I said what I said to Zayn because I was angry,” she explained. “He felt as if he was too good to acknowledge me yet not to [sic] good to copy my creativity. I had to remind him that were [sic] both in this industry and people of color by reminding him that no matter what you may think of yourself the world still sees you as ‘other’ as they see me.”

Yesterday, London festival Born & Bred announced that they had dropped Banks from her headline slot due to her hateful comments.
