A vast number of unreleased songs by Prince are up for sale, the asking price is reportedly to be in the region of $35million US dollars (£29million in pounds).
These songs have been stored in the late singer/songwriter’s personal vault at his Paisley Park home.
Some of the tracks have leaked out as bootleg recordings, but never fully released as proper Prince works.
There are rumoured to be hundreds of hours of raw and live material in the vault. Also unseen concert footage and much more.
Prince was very secretive about his vault and was the only person who could access the space in the basement of his Minneapolis home. It was climate controlled and had to be drilled open by the people responsible for his estate after his untimely death.
Many of the works stored there pre-date the legendary ‘Purple Rain’ album and show the performer at his creative peak.
There are also personal pieces, emotional works and some fun songs too.
This is a treasure trove of work by what now seems to be one of the world’s most prolific musicians.
Apart from this multi-million offer of access to Prince’s legacy fans will also be able to get their hands on a new version of ‘Purple Rain’ (which has been hyped for a few years now). A greatest hits compilation is inevitable too.
It does appear major record labels are highly and justifiably interested in the offer to purchase the vault. A bidding war will surely ensue.
Prince was reported as constantly working on new music, and his personal vault is said to be bulging with all manner of material.
The ownership of some may become a legal battle, as he was under contract to various music labels during his career and they may decide to announce some as theirs.
The estate of the singer is also a matter of debate as numerous heirs (potential heirs) stepped up after his death and a legal team are working their way through their claims.
A new batch of un-released material by Prince is an exciting thing and along with the ‘Purple Rain’ revamp will be worth waiting for.
