George Michael died from natural causes associated with heart and liver disease, a coroner has confirmed.

Following a two-month investigation the body of the ex-Wham! singer, who died at his home in Goring-On-Thames on Christmas Day 2016 aged 53, can now be released to his family.

“Inquiries into the death of George Michael have been concluded and the final post-mortem report received,” said Oxfordshire coroner Darren Salter. “As there is a confirmed natural cause of death, being dilated cardiomyopathy with myocarditis and fatty liver, the investigation is being discontinued and there is no need for an inquest or any further enquiries.

“No further updates will be provided and the family requests the media and public respect their privacy,” he concluded.

Dilated cardiomyopathy is a form of heart disease causing the organ to become stretched and thin, while myocarditis is an inflammation of the heart.

Meanwhile, in his first interview since Michael’s death, his partner Kenny Goss spoke to the Dallas Morning News about the singer’s secret gestures of generosity which have emerged. “He just wrote huge checks, enormous ones,” Goss said. “He gave away tens of millions of pounds to charity."
