Adam Ant has spoken about his friendship with Michael Jackson in the 1980s, admitting that he told Jacko to "fuck off" on the phone.

The 'Prince Charming' singer has admitted that Jackson phoned him up early in the morning while Adam and the Ants were on tour in 1980.

"I was touring 'Kings Of The Wild Frontier' and I got this call at about 5.30 in the morning saying 'Hi, this is Michael Jackson'," Ant tells the NME.

"I just thought it was my drummer Chris, so I told him to fuck off and put the phone down."

He continued: "He rang back again and I put the phone down again, then Quincy Jones called me and said 'This is Michael calling'."

"They were doing 'Thriller' and he asked me how I got the drum sound on 'Kings Of The Wild Frontier'. I told him to speak to our drummer."

Ant also said that Jackson enquired about his signature military jacket, which he is famously wearing on the cover of the albums 'Kings of the Wild Frontier' and 'Prince Charming'.

And then I got another call to ask where I got the jacket, so I told him and he went there and got it copied."

Jackson famously went on to wear similar military jackets later in the 1980s.

Ant said he then became closer friends with Jackson and spent time with him on several occasions.

"I got invited over to LA and I went to his family home, because he was still living with his mum and dad," he said. "All his brothers and sisters were there and I just spent the day walking round the house with all the snakes and llamas.

"I actually followed him onstage right after he did the moonwalk for the first time."

The full extent of Michael Jackson's illness before his planned London shows in 2009 was revealed this week, with leaked documents suggesting there was a panic over whether the singer could complete the gigs or not.

It was also recently reported that Jackson's children are to star in a new Asian cartoon series.

Ant is set to release his new album, 'Adam Ant Is The Blueblack Hussar In Marrying The Gunner's Daughter', in early 2013.
