Apple's recent acquisition of Beats headphones may be accompanied by a change in the headphone port - which will mean iPhone users will no longer be able to plug in standard issue headphones.
Apple recently purchased Dr Dre's Beats headphones company for $3 billion, and have since held a developer conference on their plans.

At the conference, Apple's platform manager announced a new 'Lightning headphone module" for the Beats headphones, which will allow for headphones to plug directly into iPhones and iPads, but may lead to the normal 3.5mm headphone ports being abandoned.
This may also mean that any future 'made for iPhone' accessories won't use traditional connectors, and thus Apple's monopoly increases.
It's not all bad news though - the new system will apparently offer better lossless sound quality.
