Radio 2 DJ Sara Cox has spoken about missing out on a job on the new series of X Factor, after former Spice Girl Melanie B was announced as the fourth judge on the upcoming talent show series.
Cox was rumoured to have been in the running for the role, which would have seen the radio host joining Simon Cowell, Cheryl Cole and Louis Walsh on the long-running (very, very long-running) TV show when it returns to UK screens later this year. Cox has recently seen something of a career revival as a cult radio figure with her brilliant Radio 2 show, Sounds Of The 80s - which is hands down the campest show on BBC radio right now thanks to some brilliant music and Cox's dry Northern wit.
Sadly, her X Factor journey ends here.
"It's been a mad exciting few weeks& I've met some lovely people but I'm not through to boot camp," Cox tweeted, following The Spice Girls appointment to the show. "Big ups to Mel b @SimonCowell @TheXFactor"
"To be fair I already have my dream job on @BBCRadio2 hosting #soundsofthe80s 10pm every Saturday night."
X Factor returns to UK screens in late summer 2014, with thousands of aspiring singers hoping to reach the heady heights of Sam Bailey, Marcus Collins, Cher Lloyd, James Arthur and all those other brilliant pop stars we are currently struggling to recall.
