Picture the scene: it's 3am in the morning on Sunday and you've spent all your money (including the extra you took out of the cashpoint) allocated for the festival. But wait, you can buy another round of beers via your wristband - which is linked electronically to you bank account, brilliant huh?
Well maybe, maybe not. US festival Lollapalooza is set to introduce payment via wristbands at their 2015 event, eliminating the need for attendees to carry cash and perhaps lowering thefts at the festival.
Billboard reports that the festival is calling the scheme 'Lolla Cashless' (snappy) and will work across the food and drink vendors across the festival. A pin number will be required to use the wristband to purchase items.
"We feel like not only will that be big for us, but it will end up spreading across some of the other major festivals," says Patrick Dentler, C3 Presents' marketing director, which manages Lollapalooza.
