Donald Trump has contrversially been named TIME magazine's person of the year calling him the “president of the divided states of America.”
The same man who called for a wall to be built along the Mexican, and called for all Muslims to be banned from the United States - even if he has backtracked somewhat with his extreme views since being elected - has found an ally in TIME magazine.
He is a man who Tim Commefrod of Rage compared to Hitler in an inverview with Gigwise and someone John Lydon told Drowned In Sound that he's worried about him being close to a nuclear trigger and said: "he’s a man incapable of research, he has no forethoughts, it’s mostly hindsight and impulsive and that’s really risky. He’s someone who doesn’t have the capacity to internalise or intellectualise.
Meanwhile, Jason Williamson of Sleaford Mods said: "There’s going to be some pretty catastrophic happenings in our life time if Donald Trump ever took office.”

Nevertheless, TIME Magazine justify their decision with the following statement: "[He's chosen] for reminding America that demagoguery feeds on despair and that truth is only as powerful as the trust in those who speak it, for empowering a hidden electorate by mainstreaming its furies and live-streaming its fears and for framing tomorrow’s political culture by demolishing yesterday’s”.
The magazine’s annual selection is more of an exercise in self-promotion than covering the news.
Previous controversial Person Of The Year choices include Adolf Hitler in 1938 and Josef Stalin in 1939 and 1942. Dear me.
Trump was named ahead of Hillary Clinton (second place), hackers (third), Turkey’s president Recep Tayyip Erdoğan (fourth), the CRISPR scientists (fifth) and Beyonce (sixth).
