The myth that Jimmy Page played guitar on The Kinks classic 1970 track 'You Really Got Me Going' has been cleared up once and for all.

The Led Zeppelin guitarist was falsely credited in a BBC documentary for playing the solo on the hit single.

Kinks guitarist Dave Davies ironed out any confusion in the following Facebook post:

"BBC TELLS LIES ABOUT DAVE DAVIES AND THE KINKS IN THEIR NEW DOCUMENTARY. PLEASE TWEET YOUR COMMENTS AT BBC DOCUMENTARY PRODUCER @KELLIEREDMOND @dannybaker5live AND @BBCRadio2. Tell them to get their facts straight...I, Dave Davies, invented the distorted guitar sound and played the solo on You Really Got Me and Ray Davies played rhythm guitar. We never used ANY other guitarists on any Kinks hits."

Jimmy Page has always denied the rumour. Speaking in a 1970 interview with Sound on Sound, he said: "I didn't play on 'You Really Got Me'."

Meanwhile, The Kinks look set to finally reunite for new material and a tour, as the infamously feuding brother Ray and Dave Davies are in talks about their future.

The legendary rockers, who have endured a tumultuous relationship, split in the 1990s - with fans hoping for them to reform ever since. Rumours emerged earlier this year when Ray said a reunion to mark the band's 50th anniversary was 'as close as it's ever been'. Recently, Ray Davies has told The Sunday Times that discussions are underway regarding new material.
