Supergrass have recorded a new version of Radiohead's 'Spooks' for Paul Thomas Anderson's new film, Inherent Vice.

Although initial reports suggested that Radiohead have recorded this old live favourite themselves, Jonny Greenwood has now confirmed that in fact two thirds of Supergrass have recorded it (after all Gaz Coombes sideburns rival Joaquin Phoenix's character on screen). Greenwood corrected a tweet from Pitchfork describing the piece as a new Radiohead song

A stoner mystery, Inherent Vice premiered at the New York Film Festival to wide acclaim, albeit mild incomprehension. Greenwood has previously worked on soundtracks for Anderson's films The Master and There Wll be Blood. The soundtrack also features Neil Young, Can and Minnie Ripperton (via The Playlist.

Inherent Vice stars Joaquin Phoenix and Josh Brolin and will be released in the UK on 30 January 2015.

Earlier this year, Greenwood confirmed that Radiohead are due to begin rehearsing and recording again in September. The band are currently on a break after touring and promoting 2011 album The King Of Limbs, with members pursuing various solo projects.

Radiohead's eighth studio album, The King Of Limbs, was released in 2011 and was nominated for five Grammys.
