Spotify Family will be launching worldwide, marking a new subscription package that lets you and up to five others share your premium account.
Although ‘family’ is the product name, it will no doubt be used by housemates and groups of friends all over the world, who have been sharing accounts currently but cannot use the streaming service simultaneously.
Pricing has been announced in the US to start at $14.99 for two users per month, $19.99 for three, $24.99 for four, and $29.99 for five users. Pricing in the UK has yet to be confirmed.
With this new service, not only will you be able to stream simultaneously, but you will also be able to keep what gets shared on Facebook separate too; so you won’t have to explain why you listened to Taylor Swift’s ‘Red’ from start to finish when it was actually your sister.
The UK is one of Spotify’s biggest markets: the British subsidiary of Spotify saw its revenues rise 41.8% to £131.4m in 2013. This helped it to post a net profit of £2.6m that year and of course this new subscription plan is expected to boost profits even more.
