Radio stations in San Francisco have banned Lorde’s smash-hit ‘Royals’ from being played in the next week.
This of course, is being carried out as the San Francisco Giants will be playing against the Kansas City Royals in baseball’s championship series.
KFOG radio said: “No offense, Lorde, but for the duration of the World Series, KFOG Radio will be a 'Royals'-free zone. We’re sure you understand.”
Coincidentally enough, the song was indeed inspired by the Kansas City Royals. Speaking about the song’s inspiration last year to VH-1, the ‘Tennis Court’ said: “I had this image from the National Geographic of this dude just signing baseballs. He was a baseball player and his shirt said, ‘Royals’. It was just word, it’s really cool.”
Kansas has consequently been more enthusiastic about ‘Royals’ this week and Kansas City’s 99.7 The Point put out a plan to play ‘Royals’ at the top of every hour on the opening night of the World Series.
Lorde in fact, met the baseball player in Las Vegas earlier this year. MLB tweeted: “And now you’re Royal. @lordemusic meets @Royals icon George Brett.”
