Veteran of the reggae scene John Holt has passed away at the age of 69.
News of the singer's death was communicated to the press by Holt's manager Copeland Forbes, who told the Jamaica Observer Online: “John died at 2:40am English time. His [John’s] nephew informed [us] of his death.”
Holt was most famous for his song 'The Tide Is High', which found fame when it was covered by Blondie in the 80's.

Having released his last album Peacemaker in 1993, Holt was a hugely influential character in reggae, rising to fame as a member of the Paragons in the 60's. In 1970 he went solo and became a huge name when he released 'Stick By Me', the biggest selling reggae track of 1972.
