DJ Shadow and Cut Chemist will bring their incredible Renegades Of Rhythm show to London's Forum, featuring the record collection of Afrika Bambaataa. Ticket details are below.
Following in the footsteps of their acclaimed back to back sessions - Brainfreeze, Product Placement and The Hard Sell - this time Shadow and Jurassic 5's Cut Chemist have gone one step further by using Afrika Bambaataa's extraordinary record collection as the basis of their new performance.
"This has never been done before, definitely not on this scale" explains Shadow. "They’re HIS records, with his blessings. This isn’t just ANY copy of ‘X’ breakbeat, it’s THE copy, THE copy that started everything. Not just any records, the MASTER OF RECORDS’ records.”
The show - featuring six turntables - has already toured the US and features a selection of Bambaataa's 40,000 strong collection of vinyl. A near two hour exploration, beginning with James Brown, there is quite simply nothing like it on the circuit.
As Oliver Wang points out on Medium, the show isn't concerned just with super obscure funk records (although there are a number of those) it also teases some of the more mainstream entries in the Master Of Records vast collection.
