Mark Ronson has said he would "feel guilty" if his new single 'Uptown Funk' became Christmas no.1 this weekend - but that he was "annoyed" at its release in the first place.
Speaking to NME, the producer detailed his anxiety about the track being in the running to take the festive top spot, explaining he wished he had time to make a festive version of the hit.
Ronson was forced to rush release the single earlier this month after a cover of the track by X Factor contestant Fleur East went to no.1 on the iTunes chart, a twist of fate that now sees the original track in tight competition against the official X Factor winner's single.
Speaking about the possibility of the track hitting the top spot this weekend, Ronson stated: "I'd almost feel guilty... That would be crazy to have a christmas number one though, as I always assume it's going to be The Pogues or Rage Against The Machine"

He continued: "I was in the States and I saw on Twitter that Nick Hodgson [ex-Kaiser Chiefs] said, 'Fleur East killing it with Uptown Funk'. I was like, 'Oh that must be X Factor, that's cool'. Then I was like, 'Wait, don't the X Factor songs come actually out on iTunes?' and then slowly this logic in my head unfolded. I realised this girl's cover's going to come out before our own.
"So yeah, for a minute I was a little bit annoyed and then we kind of rushed ours, which is good 'cause I think whatever it took to get the song out."
Ronson will release his long awaited new album Uptown Special in January, whilst the official Christmas no.1 will be announced on Sunday (21 December).
