Plastic People, one of the best and most forward thinking nightclubs in London, is due to close this weekend.
First reported by Fact, this weekend's invite only farewell The Last Dance will be the last night at the club. Taking place this Saturday (3 January) it will feature Floating Points, Benny Blanco and the club's 'mysterious boss' Abdul Forsyth.
Blessed with one of the most forward-thinking booking policies in the capital, Plastic People was renowned for its support of dubstep, grime and broken beat, hosting residencies for the likes of James Blake, Theo Parrish, Carl Craig and Four Tet.
Like many nightclubs in the capital it also endured it's fare share of legal problems, most notably in 2010 when a series of soundsystem and layout changes were enforced following a police threat regarding the “prevention of crime and disorder and public nuisance basis.”
Plastic People are yet to make an official statement about the closure.
Recent London venue closures have seen music lovers say goodbye to the Astoria, Cable, Madame Jojo's, the Hammersmith Palais, Buffalo Bar and 12 Bar.
London's last remaining super club Fabric also recently was threatened with closure but has managed to survive through hiring sniffer dogs on a regular basis - costing £300 for a 4-hour shift.
