Cult Welsh musical adventurers Super Furry Animals have announced their first live dates in six years, as well as the reissue of their fourth album Mwng.
Originally released in 2000 on the band’s own Placid Casual label, Mwng was both a deeply personal and inadvertently political album for the band. Speaking to Ric Rawlins, author of Rise Of The Super Furry Animals, frontman Gruff Rhys explained "The songs existed anyway and Welsh is the language we speak with each other, so in that sense it wasn't a big deal. But in reality it was a ig deal because we'd gone through quite a turbulent time of hype and TV documentaries where people followed us round the country with a stopwatch measuring the percentage of songs we sang in English."
To mark the 15th anniversary of their Welsh language album Mwng, the band are playing a series of UK gigs, their first since 2009. The band are set to play:
1 May Cardiff University Great Hall
2 May Cardiff University Great Hall
5 May Glasgow O2 Academy
6 May Manchester Albert Hall
8 May London O2 Academy Brixton
Tickets go on sale Thursday March 5th at 9am. For tickets and more information click here.
Mwng will be re-released on 1 May International Worker’s Day) and will be available in several formats, including an unreleased Peel session and full live set recorded at ATP.
