Wayne Static died from a combination of alcohol and prescription drugs, a coroner has revealed.
The former frontman of Static X was found dead by his wife Tera Wray Static on 1 November. Although a coroner had already confirmed that there was no foul play, Tera Wray spend the following days after her husband's death dismissing rumours circulating that he had been killed by a drugs overdose as 'disrespectful'.
Now a coroner's report has revealed that a combination of "mixed prescription drug (oxycodone, hydromorphone, alprazolam) with alcohol toxicity" caused the musician's death.
According to Blabbermouth the full report reads: "On November 1, at approximately 0700 hours, [Wayne] and his wife went to bed. His wife stated that just prior to going to bed, he crushed one-half of a 30 mg oxycodone pill and consumed it. The oxycodone had been prescribed to his wife. He also drank an unknown amount of alcohol. His wife awoke at around 1530 hours. She found the decedent dead in the bed and called 911 at 1547 hours. Paramedics arrived and confirmed death at 1600 hours, noting rigor mortis and lividity. There was no evidence of foul play or any indication a struggle had taken place."
Following his death, tributes flooded in for the former Static-X frontman including from Billy Corgan of Smashing Pumpkins and Slipknot's Corey Taylor. When information about Statix death still pointed towards an overdose, Jacoby Shaddix of Papa Roach wrote on Instagram: “This is so sad. Too many musicians are dying from overdoses… The number of friends that I have lost to addiction is crazy. If you are struggling with addiction get some help before it’s too late."
Wayne Static's last interview before his death with Revolver formed a brilliant final testament to a man whose band released five studio albums. "It’s been a long journey and honestly, I can’t believe that I’m still relevant to the music scene. I can’t believe I’m still touring and still making records. I never in a million years expected all this. It’s all because of my fans. I have the best fans in the world. They’re hardcore and diehard. I do it all for them. I keep going for them. I want to keep everyone happy and excited. I realize that’s my job. The reason I’m on this planet is to make people happy. I used to think my job was to rock out with my cock out and shit like that, but that’s not my job.
"My job is to make people happy. I go on stage and I see people’s faces light up and I see everyone smiling. I don’t see people fucking banging their heads and shit, I see everyone smiling at me, having a good time and singing along. I’m just really glad that I can provide that service to everyone and take an hour out of everyone’s shitty day, so that they can have a good time and enjoy themselves. So thanks you to all of my fans for sticking by me. I’m going to keep doing what I’m doing ’til I’m dead."
