Willy Moon, the New Zealand musician who recently got fired from the X Factor for bullying a contestant live on air, has compared himself to punk hero Malcolm McLaren.
Moon and his fellow judge and wife Natalia Kills accused contestant Joe Irvine of copying Moon's entire style after he performed in a suit with gelled hair. They called him "creepy" and "disgusting", with Moon adding, "I feel like you're going to stitch someone's skin to your face and then kill everybody in the audience."
Following the enormous backlash after footage of the incident went viral, Moon posted a photo of Malcolm McLaren on Instagram with the caption, "Hi!", presumably attempting to align himself with McLaren.
We can absolutely see the similarities. McLaren was a musician, impresario, visual artist and designer known for his innovative style and pioneering the punk movement. Moon is a musician, bully and producer known, apparently, for pioneering the suit. In fact, McLaren stole Moon's entire look, and it's creepy and disgusting.
Since the incident took place, the pair have been fired and musicians such as Lorde and Ed Sheeran have given their support to Irvine.
