Run The Jewels’ Killer Mike had to fly back to Atlanta to consult a doctor after he was unfortunately attacked earlier this week at South By South West.
The duo were playing the event on Monday when a man walked on stage and attempted to punch the rappers. Talking about the incident, El-P said before they played ‘Banana Clipper’ on Friday: “Last time we did this song, it was interrupted. Let’s not let that happen again. If you interrupt this song we’ll beat the fuck out of you.”
Mike then spoke about the injury to the crowd and said that he flew home to see a doctor straightaway, who diagnosed him with a torn rotator cuff. Mike refused to wear a sling and declared: “I was like, ‘doctor, I’m not leaving the road - the tour goes on!”
Meanwhile, the man who attacked the rappers is still at the festival. Matt Sonzal, a promoter, said to Buzzfeed Music: “After he was thrown out, I walked out and asked police working the line to get in if they planned on arresting the man who just attempted to assault the band onstage. They come with me and we find him right around the corner from the venue — he’s sitting on a stoop, skull open, bleeding down his face. Police talk to him, come back and say to me they can’t arrest him based on my testimony alone.”
