Tidal made it's debut last night with exclusive material releases from Arcade Fire, The White Stripes and Daft Punk. Watch footage of the launch below.

The artist-owned streaming service is described as a 'platform for artists' which aims to 're-establish the value of music'. Not just owned by Jay Z, last night it was revealed that Arcade Fire’s Win Butler and Régine Chassagne, Kanye West, Jack White, and Daft Punk all have part-ownership of the service.

Jay Z told Billboard: “We didn’t like the direction music was going and thought maybe we could get in and strike an honest blow and if, you know, the very least we did was make people wake up and try to improve the free vs. paid system, and promote fair trade, then it would be a win for us anyway"

“People are not respecting the music, and (are) devaluing it and devaluing what it really means” he added. “People really feel like music is free, but will pay $6 for water. You can drink water free out of the tap, and it’s good water. But they’re OK paying for it. It’s just the mind-set right now.”

Among the new releases are The White Stripes’ first-ever television appearance, Daft Punk’s 2006 film Electroma and playlists created by Arcade Fire, Coldplay, Jay Z and Beyonce. Check them out here.
