Grateful Dead and John Mayer might be planning to tour together, with Mayer serving as the band’s singer.
As Billboard reports, “multiple sources” have said that there will be a fall tour kicking off in October, and that they have already begun rehearsing together. Bob Weir is reportedly “ecstatic about the prospect”.
However, a representative for the band told Billboard that it is "premature" to suggest that the tour is in the works.
Grateful Dead are scheduled to play three sold-out nights at Chicago’s Soldier Field this July, and the farewell concerts will be broadcast live in select theaters across the country. The band’s ‘Fare Thee Well: Celebrating 50 Years of Grateful Dead’ shows will be a reunion of Mickey Hart, Bill Kreutzmann, Phil Lesh, and Bob Weir.
The band also recently added two extra show dates, due to the huge demand from fans who didn’t manage to get tickets to the Soldier Field shows. They wrote on their website: “Since we made the decision to go back to Chicago to say our final goodbye, it has become clear to us that we first need to return to our beginnings, where we first said hello — to each other and to all of you.”
“And so it is that we have decided to plug in for two additional shows on June 27 and 28 at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California — just a dozen miles south of where Dana Morgan’s Music Store once stood. At Levi’s — as at Soldier Field — we will have the pleasure of being joined by Trey Anastasio, Bruce Hornsby and Jeff Chimenti.”
Grateful Dead will be playing:
June 27 – Santa Clara, CA - Levi’s Stadium

July 03 – Chicago, IL - Soldier Field
July 04 – Chicago, IL - Soldier Field
