In recent times, producers have become almost as much of a powerful presence as the artist they're working for.
The likes of Rick Rubin, Paul Epworth and Pharrell Williams are some of the most sought-out names in the music business, with artists paying hundreds of thousands for the chance to have a track blessed with their golden touch.
Rising producers such as Hudson Mohawke and Arca are also hot property, having a hand in this year's biggest hip hop albums, and if you want to catch them doing a DJ set, join the back of a very, very long queue.
We've listed the most formidable producers of 2013, who have had a hand in the biggest tracks and the best albums of the year.
