YouTube dispute could see Arctic Monkeys and more pulled from website

High profile artists, such as Arctic Monkeys and Adele, could have their videos pulled from YouTube in the coming days, in an ongoing dispute between the video site and indie labels such as XL and Domino Records.

This will be bad news for anyone wanting to watch the ridiculous new Arctic Monkeys video.

YouTube will stop streaming videos from these labels as they gear up to launch a 'premium paid' music service, which will put themselves in direct competition with Spotify, Beats Music and Deezer. The Financial Times reports that while 90% of record labels have agreed new terms with YouTube, both XL and Domino have been unable to come to an agreement, and are said to be holding out for a better deal.

The newspaper also reports that due to unsatisfactory terms offered by YouTube, the labels have appealed to the European Commission to assist the discussion. YouTube will start removing videos from labels who have not agreed to their new terms in the next few days.

The dispute is said to come from unhappiness with additional features being added to the free service, not the new Premium model, while YouTube insist the new scheme has been developed with their viewers in mind.
