US channel Lifetime has announced they will air a biopic chronicling the life of late R&B star Aaliyah, with Disney Channel actress Zendaya starring in the lead role.
Aaliyah: Princess of R&B will detail the brief life of the singer, who died in a plane crash in 2001. 17 year old Disney star Zendaya will play the role of the Aaliyah.
The multi-talented Zendaya also released her own self-titled album in 2013, which featured the platinum-selling single 'Replay'. She also recently appeared on Dancing With the Stars.

The biopic is sure to touch on Aaliyah's swift rise to superstardom throughout the 90s - although we're sure they'll omit her dodgy underage marriage to R Kelly.
Aaliyah: Princess of R&B will be based on the autobiography Aaliyah: More Than A Woman, and produced by Aaliyah Productions Inc.
