The best music scenes of all time from around the world
New York: A city credited for giving us so much by the way of punk (The Ramones, Blondie), indie (The Strokes, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Interpol, The National), dance (LCD Soundsystem, Liquid Liquid, anything on DFA) and pretty much every other genre - but NYC is the true beating heart of East Coast hip-hop. The free-flowing sounds, complex rhythms, sampling and poetic worldplay flow around the streets of the Metropolis, giving birth to wave after wave of pioneering giants like The Sugarhill Gang, Run DMC, Grandmaster Flash, De La Soul, A Tribe Called Quest and Public Enemy, Beastie Boys and Nas.
