Convicted paedophile Ian Watkins may be set to receive a cash sum of over £147,000 from the sale of Lostprophets Management company.
Currently serving a 35 year sentence for a number of child abuse and sex offences, the former Lostprophets singer may receive the windfall after his fellow band members told accountants to close their management firm Goonies Touring Company Ltd.
As the company possessed £200,000 in cash and more than £500,000 in assets, it would appear that the convicted paedophile may receive a considerable sum.
A source told the Mirror: “He is entitled to the money because it is cash earned by the band before this scandal broke. Many people will feel revulsion that he will have a nice little nest egg waiting for him when he’s freed but it is his cash and it will go to him.”
Watkins, who pleaded guilty to a number of child sex offences, was sentenced at Cardiff Crown Court in December 2013. Music legal expert Craig Brookes said at the time that he could be made up to £100,000 in royalties during his time in prison, little knowing that the Lostprophets musical catalogue would be effectively silenced by the case. Brookes told Wales Online: “The biggest income stream will almost certainly be publishing which, even if radio play has stopped, will still be pretty big."
A jury is currently considering their verdict in the trial of Watkins' ex Joanne Mjadzelics who denies illegally possessing child pornography.
Lostprophets disbanded in October 2013.
