It is difficult to feel positive about a gig that was nothing more than an excuse for ‘Teeny Bopper Punks’ to enjoy themselves , because however entertaining Bowling for Soup may have been, musically there just wasn’t a lot to it. Most of the tracks played were nothing new. They were either old songs, covers of Britney Spears and other such pop acts, or new songs that sounded vaguely familiar, spewing out repetitive riffs and baselines that was very much 'more of the same'. On saying that, they did manage to engage with the crowd and provided a few laughs along the way, but it's possible that they took the joke a little too far with one of the road crew urinating in a fan’s shoe that had been thrown on stage.
Despite playing tracks like ‘Girl all the Bad Guys Want’ and ‘Belgium’ incredibly well, in the eyes of 'traditional' punk fans Bowling for Soup will always be way off the mark. But in today's scene of what appears to be 'Poppy Punk' they have achieved a great deal and should at least receive some commendation for that. Towards the end of the gig they announced that they are going back into the studio to record a new album and hope to be touring around the UK again next year. Hopefully with the influx of new material they will provide their fans with a greater feel of what the band is all about.
