It's become a gig-going staple for fans to film clips of their favourite song and post it on social media for their friends and followers. If you're a Janet Jackson fan, though, you better think again.
The singer's fans are reporting that their clips were removed and accounts suspended after they posted footage from her gigs on Instagram. As explanation, they're being sent an email telling them "a third party reported that the content violates their copyright."
One fan told Page Six that the morning after the gig, she woke up to find her Instagram account deleted. "Without warning. Every. Single. Photo. Gone," she told them.
Another told the news site they had "five e-mails from Instagram . . . about the five videos I had posted . . . It seems like Miss Jackson's [legal] team is on fire. What a shame they don’t understand the times we live in."
This isn't the first time Jackson has taken a firm stance on copyright issues. As The Guardian reports, producer Seven Aurelius said his SoundCloud and YouTube accounts were deleted after he posted an unreleased song he recorded with her in 2003. Jackson's team insisted that the song was a hoax.
