Kendrick Lamar performs with National Symphony Orchestra video Photo:

Kendrick Lamar performed a one-off show with the National Symphony Orchestra last night in Washington, playing an extended selection of cuts from his storming LP, To Pimp A butterfly. Check out some of the footage below.

Led by conductor Steven Reineke (previously performing with Nas and John Legend) at the Kennedy Centre in Washington, D.C, the highly acclaimed full orchestra helped Kendrick with rousing songs like ‘Alright’, ‘These Walls’, ‘The Blacker The Berry’ and more.

The combination of strings, horns and a sea of other instruments elevated these unforgettable tracks even further, whipping the ecstatic crowd into a gleeful frenzy as they witnessed Mr Lamar killing the stage in his true element.

Watch a few videos of the performance below

Kendrick is heading off on his U.S Groove sessions tour with T.D.E member Jay Rock, but keep your fingers, toes and any other flexible limbs crossed that he'll be brining this unique set-up to London in the not too distant future.

It's been over six months since To Pimp A Butterfly hit the airwaves and dramatically raised the bar for 21st century hip-hop. Check out our thoughts on the album's influence on culture six months down the line.
