Originally billed as the American equivalent to Arctic Monkeys through their DIY success over the pond, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah have not really managed to surf the wave of hype, rather more glided along on their front picking up friends along the way. ‘The Skin Of My Country Yellow Teeth’ starts off nicely enough with hazy keyboards soon joined by a drum beat and pretty guitar line, then comes Alec Ounsworths voice. To say it’s an acquired taste is an understatement. Out of tune, whiny, up and down it really is ugly, a real contrast to the lo-fi summery daze his band make. Like being on a beach with Anne Widdecombe, a beautiful prospect ruined by an ugly interference.
