Having wooed the nation on Jools Holland with all the intensity of a blowtorch, the Welsh lass from the Llyn Peninsula is unleashed on an anticipatory public. Rough Trade aren't the usual suspects for soul divas, yet, with a strident voice that reminds of the great Dusty Springfield in the late 60's and the production work of the trusty Bernard Butler, Duffy is one to watch. 'Rockferry' clearly isn't the economically challenged post-industrial hotspot along the banks of the Mersey east of the Cammell Lairds Shipyard nextdoor to Half Man Half Biscuit, but it is a warming alt. country/pop/soul belter with a train station to destiny and strings that add a lushness to this sexy little number as Duffy swoons: “I'll move to Rockferry tomorrow/ and I'll build my house baby/ with sorrow."
