'A perfect set for this nostalgic synthpop performance'

Since the 2013 release of The Tales Of Us album, electropop duo Goldfrapp have been touring around a lot. Fans who missed the band at Glastonbury festival got a chance to catch up at last night’s outdoor gig in Greenwich.

Never ignore the golden rule of a late-night outdoor gig - always bring a coat, a jacket, a hoodie - anything that will keep you warm. So, yeah, the duo’s only London concert at Old Royal Naval College was the most freezing concert of my life.

Don’t get me wrong - the grounds of the old college, the illumination, the river bank, Canary Wharf towers looked beautiful and were a perfect set for this nostalgic synthpop performance. But it was a sit-down gig as well, so trembling (not with excitement, but because of cold) guests were going heavy on the - again - ice cold wine and the beers, for the first five songs from 2013 Tales Of Us album. Alison Goldfrapp, in a stunning long black dress, doing her a-little-out-of-this-world slow cosmic dance movements with her arms, was very compassionate about the whole trembling situation and decided to get down to the hits.

‘Number One’, ‘Ride A White Horse’ - the fans were happy. I should say that there were a lot of people aged 50 plus and I should also say they were the most enthusiastic dancers at the end of the night, when everyone gave up their seats and moved closer to the stage. However, as soon as the band disappeared for a minute before the encore, many early-leavers started going through the crowd, which always leaves a sad impression. Well, their loss - they never got to hear ‘Utopia’, ‘Clowns’ and ‘Lovely Head’ .

Goldfrapp are just one of these bands, aren't they? You don’t follow their music much, but they do put on a hell of a show in their own quietly hypnotizing way.
