Kintsugi by Death Cab For Cutie is, to put it simply, the best thing they've done in a decade.

It's a real return to form in the sense that they've struck a balance that we haven't heard with Death Cab since Plans and Transatlanticism. You can hear it on tracks like 'The Ghosts Of Beverley Drive', 'Good Help Is Hard To Find' and 'Black Sun' that they've taken the more direct elements from Codes and Keys and Narrow Stairs, but married them with a more vivid sense of lyricism - it's personal, poetic and deep.
It paints a world of its own like those 'classic' Death Cab records. Obviously with the personal goings on in Ben Gibbard's life, and the departure of Chris Walla during the production of the record, you do get that sense that 'Kintsugi' literally means carrying the fractures and breakages of an object and celebrating them, rather than disguising them.
That aching sense of confessional is reflected in the music, which is what makes this feel like a 'classic' Death Cab record. Obviously, Death Cab fans are somewhat of a cult, and everyone has their own entry point which they're quite dedicated and stuck to, but I think there are shades on here that everyone can find love in. One of the best albums of the year so far.
