For those anxiously waiting for what Metallica will have to offer when they headline Glastonbury this month, get a taster for their festival shows by checking out their full set from Rock Am Ring this weekend.

The hard rock heroes have proven somewhat of a controversial choice for this year's coveted headline slot on the Saturday night of the Pyramid Stage. There were no complaints when they took to the stage at Germany's Rock Am Ring on Sunday (8 June, 2014) however -  with nearly two and a half hours of career-spanning metal anthems.

If this show is anything to go by, then Glasto could be one hell of a weekend.

Metallica played:
Battery
Master of Puppets
Welcome Home (Sanitarium)
Ride the Lightning
The Unforgiven
Creeping Death
Lords of Summer
Sad but True
Fade to Black
Fuel
One
For Whom the Bell Tolls
Whiskey in the Jar (Thin Lizzy cover)
Nothing Else Matters
Enter Sandman
Encore:
St. Anger
...And Justice for All
Seek & Destroy

Metallica have split opinion since being announced for Glasto  - among bands as well as fans. Arctic Monkeys frontman Alex Turner said that it 'doesn't add up', while in an interview with Gigwise, Mogwai described the band as "shite", singling out their drummer Lars Ulrich as "unbelievably bad."

Speaking to Metal Hammer, Ulrich has responded to the criticism, saying: "We're fairly thick-skinned and just kind of turn a blind eye to it, but obviously if Mick Jagger has something to say, or Alex Turner, or the very nice guys in Kasabian, who I love, it's cool."

He continued: "But at some point, if some guy in some other band... it's like, 'Huh? What? Who are you?' At some point it becomes a little bit ridiculous."

This year's Glastonbury festival will be headlined by Kasabian, Arcade Fire, and Metallica, and takes place 25 - 29 June.
