The first video of Courtney Love singing opera ahead of her performance in Kansas City Choir Boy has been revealed. Watch it below.
The Hole singer is set to star in the pop opera, written by Todd Almond, from 8 to 17 January as part of the Prototype Festival.
Love plays a teenage (?) singer who leaves her childhood sweetheart behind in Kansas to try and make it in New York. Her singing isn't exactly traditional opera - she retains her trademark rasp and talk-singing style, which is all held together by a calm piano and cello accompaniment.

Speaking of the pop opera to the New York Times, Love said, "I’ve never done musical theatre - I really wanted to do theatre, but probably I’m not ready to do a play quite yet. Fortuitously, Todd wrote this thing eight years ago, and I met him and I fell in love with it."
She added, "It’s like putting out a single. If it gets catchy, then we do it in London or something. If it doesn’t, it doesn’t. We think it’s really catchy and fabulous. It’s baptism by fire, but I’m going to hang in and give it my best."
Kansas City Choir Boy opens this Thursday (8 January) at the Prototype Festival.
