The song is a tribute to Emmett Till who was murdered at the age of 14 in a racially motivated attack in the 1950s. This horrific ordeal had a significant impact on the civil rights movement. The haunting video follows the storyline of her murder. The foundation, which is run by Till's cousin Deborah Watts, aims to create an awareness and educate young children in the US about racism.
The track is part of Gardot's new album Currency of Man which is due out in June. Gardot has said of the release "It's a body of work where Larry [Klein] and I discover an electric side of the songs, something I've never done before.. It’s all an exploration, but it feels good to have something new, and even a bit strange."
