"I guess there was this point towards my later 20s where I was kind of questioning playing music to no avail," smiles Sam Fogarino, a million miles from that hopeless world and hours before they headline a sold-out show at The Roundhouse in London. "There were minor accomplishments and I just thought maybe I should go to radiology school or something!"

The journey of Interpol has been a long and winding one - but throughout it all they've stayed true to themselves and their vision. They're a pretty inspiration group, which is why we sat down to find out what the best piece of advice they'd ever received was.
"I was delivering pizza and my mother came to the shop," Fogarino remembers. "She said 'can I come out with you?' and I was like 'did somebody die?' It was really bizarre, and she hands me this cartoon from the New Yorker or something, and there were parents in the threshold of some rock n' roll kid's bedroom and the quote is 'we decided to support you in a life of rock n' roll.
"My mother gave me that was like 'don't quit playing music. You can always go back to school, but don't quit playing music yet. That was the best advice because three years later I joined Interpol, and two years later Turn On The Bright Lights came out."
He added: "There was no going to radiology school. I suppose I can do that for a lark though, during a year off. She was right though, that's probably the best advice I've had."
