Thom Yorke has written a letter addressed to Father Christmas to commemorate National Letter Writing Day, which fell on 7 December.
The letter comes as part of Letters Live – live performance of letters written by famous people. This year, David Bowie, Marge Simpson, Gandhi, Elvis and Che Guevara were amongst the celebrity letters read out by performers including Sir Ian Mckellen, Kylie Minogue and Russell Brand.
This year, celebrities were asked to write a letter to Father Christmas.
The Atoms For Peace singer presented his letter in 10 stanzas, in which he wrote playfully about the joyful season. It’s rare to see a positive Yorke, especially after comparing YouTube to The Nazis.
Yorke’s positivity even extends to harness comedic value, “we all expect a little too much of you now I think. And there are so many imposters on television. Even in the street.”
He even frivolously attempts to tease St. Nick, “but the Christmas albums are already being played in the shops. That must be so embarrassing for you”.
However, a message from Thom Yorke wouldn’t be complete without a political dig at mankind, “I won’t ask you to solve the problems of the human race. Those are our problems alone. But perhaps this year you would consider not giving any presents to oil company executives and the politicians whose influence they buy?”
Nevertheless, his sincere wishes for his kids are heartwarming, requesting that “my kids have a beautiful Christmas with love and understanding and peace. Perhaps some heavy snow? That would be really great. And can you just send the precious things that will really mean something to them? And can you send them some hope for the future. That is very important”.
For himself, Yorke isn’t too demanding, “and for me? just some reading glasses.. : / the blue ones”.

At Yorke's solo acoustic set for Pathyway To Paris last week, Yorke teased two unheard songs that may appear on the currently untitled Radiohead album, which Radiohead fans will certianly be asking Santa for.
