This news will come as a major blow to any worshippers of Britpop legends Oasis, but Noel Gallagher has "categorically" ruled out any chance of a reunion for next year’s Glastonbury Festival. If you were planning on belting out 'Wonderwall' in a muddy field next June, you may as well rule it out.
Talking to BBC Radio Two’s Simon Mayo, ahead of a special performance for the station this evening, Gallagher was eager to quell any speculation. "I can categorically state I won’t be doing Glastonbury, so don’t go down the bookies,” he said. “‘Neither will Beady Eye or any other off-shoot band that ever came from Oasis. I don’t know what I’m doing but I’m not doing that.”
Gallagher, who is now reaping success in his own right with the High Flying Birds, did admit that he would attend the Worthy Farm event as a spectator.
Tickets for next year’s Oasis-less festival sold out in minutes after they went on sale this October. Headlining the 2015 edition of the event were Florence + The Machine, Kanye West and The Who.
Despite dismissing rumours of a reformation at Glasto, rumours are still rife concerning a potential Oasis tour in 2016 – with the tabloids reporting on a ‘gentlemen’s agreement’ between the impassioned siblings.
Gallagher recently stoked murmurs of a full reunion when ex-guitarist Gem Archer joined him on stage to perform a selection of Oasis numbers at a gig Lincoln.
