Sharon Van Etten has revealed a beautiful new song 'Words', which was written for the forthcoming documentary about comedian Tig Notaro. Listen to it below.
Notaro, who's an actor and stand-up comedian and co-hosts the excellent podcast Professor Blastoff, performed a now famous set at LA's Largo just days after being diagnosed with cancer, and just months after suffering the death of her mother and a difficult break-up.
On the spur of the moment, Notaro eschewed her planned set, walked up to the microphone and said, "Good evening. Hello. I have cancer. How are you? Hi, how are you? Is everybody having a good time? I have cancer." The subsequent set has gone down as one of the greatest of all time.
Now, Notaro's story is the subject of a new documentary, Tig, for which Sharon Van Etten has written the closing credits song, 'Words'. It's a poignant, reverb-filled ballad with sprawling synth chords and an electronic drum beat.
