On the eve of his new solo album release in September, Chris Cornell has spoken about the possibility of an Audioslave reunion.
Speaking with Total Guitar, he expressed an interest in getting the Soundgarden and Rage Against The Machine supergroup back together.
“I think it would be great. We did a lot of songs, and with the benefit of not having done anything with those guys for so long, I can’t imagine what it would be. It would be a really amazing experience just to get back and work with the same guys again,” he said.
After Cornell left the band, the group went their separate ways in 2007. The ex-lead singer noted at the time in an official statement that he’d left due to “irresolvable personality conflicts as well as musical differences.”
Though it now appears that he’s beginning to have second thoughts about the band’s split, talking extensively about their chemistry when they were together. He said:
“We were certainly a prolific group of people; we wrote three whole albums in around five years, maybe less. And these were albums that were raw, and we had extra material, and we just never seemed to have trouble ever trying to agree on what would come out of the songs.”
Cornell's first solo album since 2011, Higher Truth is expected to be released September 18, with the artist embarking on a North American acoustic tour in support.
