Rising indie stars Spectres have caused quite the stir online, after leaking emails allegedly from Sam Smith's management - threatening BBC 6 Music for supporting their unnofficial Bond theme. However, they've since been revealed as fake.

The band released the playful song earlier this year, naturally because they share a name with the upcoming film in the James Bond series.

The track received support from BBC 6 Music. Spectres then released screengrabs on the band's website, Sam Smith's management were less than happy with this - threatening legal action against the station unless they stop playing. An agreement was made to 'keep the peace' but management were then accused of 'bullying tactics'.

However, the BBC have since revealed that the story is a hoax, telling Gigwise: “Bob Shennan did not exchange emails with anyone regarding this matter, the story is a hoax.”

The band too, have since apologised: "We should have seen that coming. Doesn't look like those emails were true, should have checked before getting all over excited. Sorry Sam and everyone involved. Argh."

See the fake emails below.
