Public Enemy get lift to show with Sheffield fan on Prodigy tour Photo: Press
One Public Enemy fan had the surprise of his life, when he found himself giving the 'Fight The Power' icons lift to their own gig in his humble Ford Escort.

Public Enemy are currently on tour with The Prodigy. Ahead of their show at Sheffield's Motorpoint Arena, number one fan and local photographer Kevin Wells found Chuck D, Flavor Flav and their entourage stranded at the legendary Record Collector store. He nipped along to get one of his albums signed and gave them a lift to the gig - and even had enough camera films for a cheeky selfie.

“Public Enemy had a taxi booked for 6.30pm, but it drove off before the guys had finished signing autographs," Wells told The Sheffield Star. “People started panicking and looking for someone to drive, so I volunteered.

“They were such nice guys, we had a right laugh. We were chatting away, but the phone was constantly going as their management were clearly worried."

Then, things took an even more awesome turn.

“Then as we were coming through Attercliffe, 'Bohemian Rhapsody', by Queen, came on the radio.  Everyone was singing the words and rocking out in the back of my car, it was like a Wayne’s World moment.

“I was looking in the rear view mirror thinking, ‘is this actually happening?’”

He added: “We got to the arena about 15 minutes before they were due on stage.

Wells continued: “Public Enemy were absolutely brilliant; such nice guys and they were great with the fans. Sometimes fame can ruin people, but it clearly hadn’t with them.

“They are arguably the biggest act we’ve ever had in the store. It really was an honour to have them and I’m glad they made the show on time.”
