Foo Fighters' frontman Dave Grohl, who has drummed for Nirvana, Queen Of The Stone Age, Them Crooked Vultures, Garbage and Nine Inch Nails has met his match in the form of Animal from The Muppets.

Just before the credits rolled for episode 9 of ABC’s The Muppets, ‘Going Going Gonzo’, audiences were treated to a vying drum battle between Dave Grohl and Animal.

"I've been waiting years for this, Animal," said the Foo Fighter’s frontman. “Now we’ll see who’s the besT."

Animal contended back – there was no love lost between the two. After a cheeky rebuttal, Animal unleashed his drumming prowess but failed to impress the ‘Everlong’ singer, who sarcastically tapped his cymbol and said 'What's that? A bell?'. The two then proceeded to take it in turns to better the other, which intensified into a climactic finale of drumming chaos, as both drummers kicked their kits off stage.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt also appeared on the episode, singing a duet with Miss Piggy.

Animal isn’t too unfamiliar with taking on rock stars. On the Jimmy Kemmel Live in 2012, Blink 182’s drummer, Travis Barker met the drumming fury of the furry puppet.

Dave Grohl was cast out as Animal’s nemesis after filling in for him in The Muppet’s 2011 movie, The Moopets.

The Foo Fighters have recently released their new EP on Spotify, St Cecilia, which commemorates the 130 victims of the Paris terrorist attacks.
